This summer, the David Caleb Cook Foundation’s evangelism resource, The Story of Jesus, celebrates its 10th birthday. (To download a free digital copy of The Story of Jesus, please see the bottom of this page.) We have seen the amazing ways God has used The Story of Jesus since it was first printed 10 years ago. But the story behind how it was created is just as amazing:
The Story of Jesus is a colorful and engaging evangelism booklet that was developed in partnership with other ministries focused on serving children in areas where the message of God’s love is not heard often enough. This excerpt from DCCF’s much-loved Bible engagement resource, The Action Bible, brings the gospel message to life through action-packed illustrations by well-known comic artist Sergio Cariello and easy-to-read text that shares the story of God’s redemptive love in easy-to-read and age-appropriate ways.
Samples were shared with the partners who had helped to develop the resource, and within weeks, hundreds of thousands of copies had been requested by ministry leaders in Central America who were looking for engaging ways to reach the unreached children in their communities. David C Cook responded by printing 1.5 million copies in Spanish, which were quickly distributed by ministry leaders from 15,000 churches in five countries.
News of The Story of Jesus quickly spread around the world. Ministry leaders in Tanzania distributed The Story of Jesus in English to theater-goers. The booklet was translated into Arabic to share in Northern Sudan and Khmer to give to Cambodian genocide survivors. More than 800,000 copies were printed in Russian for children in Ukraine, Belarus, Moldova, and Russia, and more than a million Portuguese booklets were distributed to native tribes in Brazil. All this happened within months of the very first printing.
Friends of DCCF stepped in to continue funding the translation and printing of The Story of Jesus in more languages and more countries to reach even more children with the gospel. Thanks to their generosity, more than 56 million children around the globe have received their own copies of The Story of Jesus, and this engaging booklet has been printed in 48 languages and distributed in 72 countries around the world.
We’re excited to say that the story of The Story of Jesus is far from over. Almost exactly 10 years from the very first distribution of The Story of Jesus in Central America, 450,000 copies were given to children in the same region, and we’ve shared some of the powerful stories of transformation with you. (Read one of those stories.) More than 400,000 copies will soon arrive in East Africa to share God’s love with children in Tanzania, Uganda, Kenya, and beyond. Still more are currently being gifted to children in India. And the requests for this resource continue to grow—and friends like you continue to support and pray for this outreach effort.
You can become part of the story of The Story of Jesus by helping to fund the printing and distribution of this much-needed evangelism booklet. Though we are blessed to share this story, we know that God has always been the author. We hope you’ll join us on this amazing journey to see what He will do by giving the gift of the gospel through your contribution to the Story of Jesus Project.
Thanks to the generosity of our friends, this booklets has been used by children’s ministry leaders all over the world to share the gospel message in their churches and communities—and millions of children around the world have been transformed by God’s love.
