When Blessy sat down at the training for children’s ministry leaders in Mumbai, she didn’t know what to expect. She had been serving children for many years, not only leading a Sunday school class at her church but also hosting a Bible club for children in the slums near her home.
Blessy listened attentively and took notes. She was looking forward to trying some new teaching strategies to engage the children’s hearts and minds. Then, during the session about praying for the children in her ministry, Blessy broke down in tears. “I suddenly realized that though I had been sharing the message of God’s love with the children, I didn’t really feel I was receiving it,” Blessy said. “I also realized that changing the children’s lives was not my responsibility, but God’s. Only He can transform a child’s heart! The best way I can care for them is to love them and pray for them and let my heart be filled with God’s love so they will be able to see what it means to follow Jesus.”
Blessy’s commitment to God and to children’s ministry was renewed that day. She returned to her church and her Bible club encouraged and equipped to teach children in engaging and effective ways. And since that training just before the COVID outbreaks began, she has continued her neighborhood ministry as much as possible, maintaining safe health practices and reminding children to stay at home during regional outbreaks. Thanks to her faithfulness, more than 20 children from non-Christian homes have been hearing that they are loved by God and that He has a beautiful plan for their lives—even in the midst of a pandemic.
Thank you for praying for Blessy and the hundreds of thousands of other children’s ministry leaders around the world who continue to share God’s love with the children in their churches and communities!
