It isn’t unusual to see young boys playing football in the village of Hinkal, Ghana. What is unusual is 23 boys standing on a dusty playground reading about Jesus.
Taph, one of the youngest football players, noticed that a local fan was more enamored with the small booklet given to him by some Christians than he was the game. Before long, Taph and all the other boys were reading the same booklet.
Reading about a man, the Son of God, who promised forgiveness of sins, amazing grace, and eternal life was what had stopped their football game. And it made perfect sense, because “…the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.” Luke 18:16
That evening, Taph couldn’t stop thinking about what he had read on the football field. He had dreamed all night about wanting to be with Jesus in heaven. So the next morning, he invited Jesus to come into his life.
Taph is a poor boy from a poor village. But now the kingdom of God belongs to him. Thanks be to God!
Scripture:
Jesus said, ‘Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.’ Matthew 19:14
Prayer:
Jesus, thank you that the simplicity of your story has a life-changing and eternal impact. May we find the unusual moments within our days to tell your story, so that, like Taph, others can dream about you, invite you in, and receive the kingdom of God.
