Learning What Love Is

After Divya’s parents abandoned her, her grandmother offered her to the Hindu temple and she was trafficked into sexual slavery. At just fourteen years of age, Divya had become a temple prostitute.

I was raped. I was ruined. It was a living hell,” Divya says.

A living hell.

But one day a Christian outside the temple gates paid a large amount of money to the priest for Divya’s release. This Christian took her to a beautiful home, where she would begin her recovery. The first year was problematic—flashbacks and memories overwhelmed her, and she struggled to handle her emotions. But as Divya’s instructor began teaching her lessons about emotional health, Divya began to heal. The process was slow, but Divya was getting better.

I feel much better now, and I like my new life. I love my J127 club. For the first time, I have learned what love is.

Scripture:

To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he might be glorified. Isaiah 61:3 kjv

Prayer:

God, only you can rescue the brokenhearted. Only you can make our twisted paths straight. We pray for Divya, that when it’s time, her testimony would reach into the living hells of girls just like her with grace and healing. O God, we pray that her story of brokenness will be used for your glory.

Standing in the Gap

Divya is not alone.  Anshuri, Sadhra, and Preethi and many others have similar stories.

David C Cook, with the help of local churches and prayer warriors like you, stands in the gap for these young girls. To help, David C Cook’s Life on Life curriculum covers three important areas of learning for children at risk: Spiritual Formation, Character Building, and Life Skills.

Thank you for your continued prayers for Divya, Anshuri, Sadhra, Preethi, and the multitude of others like them.

Update: In 2018, David C Cook transferred oversight of the J127 clubs to an in-country partner which continues to shepherd and grow this program. By supporting David C Cook’s Life on Life curriculum, you will be helping support this program as well.
