Martyr in the Making

“It’s not always safe to follow Jesus”, said Uncle Yohanna, stunning the little children with his statement.

This lesson is from David C Cook’s Life on Life curriculum used in the J127 clubs. The children were learning about Stephen and how he was stoned to death for preaching about Christ and his resurrection. Uncle Yohanna ended the lesson with a question,

Which of you would like to be a minister of God like Stephen?

There was an uncomfortable silence that followed.

Then Solomon, 10, an orphan unexpectedly raised his hand. He said,

I would like to be a pastor and serve Christ, because when Stephen spoke about Jesus his face shone like an angel. I would like to experience that. I don’t mind giving my life for Christ, because it a privilege to die for Christ. He gave himself for the whole world; I would be honored to do so for his sake.

Pray for Solomon and the many children around the world like him – who have come to know Christ and want to make a difference – even where it isn’t safe to follow Jesus…

Update: In 2018, David C Cook transferred oversight of the J127 clubs to an in-country partner which continues to shepherd and grow this program. By supporting David C Cook’s Life on Life curriculum, you will be helping support this program as well.
