The Power of a Song

Every month children in the J127 program learn a new praise and worship song. They sing, dance, draw pictures of the song, and discuss what it means to them. Each special song is an integral part of this club-like program.

“Father God, I Wonder” is one of the children’s favorites. It speaks directly to them:

Father God, I wonder
how I managed to exist
without the knowledge of Your parenthood
and Your loving care.
But now I am Your Child.
I am adopted in your family,
And I can never be alone
‘cause Father God You’re there beside me.

“Father God, I wonder” was written by a man named Ishmael, a Kingsway author from England. Kingsway Music is a member of the David C Cook family of ministries. Because the song meant so much to them, orphans wrote to “Ish” to thank him for his song.

“This song reminds me that I’m not really an orphan. I sing it in my mind at night when it’s dark.”
“Thank you for this wonderful song. I know its words are true.”
“Did you write this song just for me? I think you did.”

After reading all the notes, Ish told us, “I wrote this song 27 years ago. Like albums and books, songs have a limited shelf life. I thought this song was going to fade into history. But reading these letters changed my mind completely. Today the song is achieving its true purpose—giving these precious children a reason for living. I am honored and humbled.”

Update: In 2018, David C Cook transferred oversight of the J127 clubs to an in-country partner which continues to shepherd and grow this program. By supporting David C Cook’s Life on Life curriculum, you will be helping support this program as well.
